Once again, FCC's Relay for Life team is walking. Just a "little walk" before the big Relay for Life in June. The team is on the road right now, so if you see them, honk and wave...also throw a few $20 bills their way; it's a fundraiser after all :) In all seriousness, these folks are walking 32 exhausting miles carrying the names of friends, family and loved ones on their backs. All affected by cancer. So if you do see them, above all else, send some love their way. If you want to follow the group's progress during the day, tune into our Facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/FCCDisciplesCushing |

This Spaghetti Sticks!!In my last post, I talked about a problem FCC has faced for some time now. None of our Outreach "spaghetti" has stuck. Old-school cooks used to throw cooked spaghetti against a wall. If it stuck, it was done. If not, eh...a few more minutes in the kettle. A lot of our ministries have gone back into the kettle. Now First Christian Church has a real chance to stick a couple of ministries with real potential to help both locally and abroad! |

Throwing SpaghettiAlmost as long as I have been at First Christian Church, I have been either a member of or chair of the Outreach Committee or one of its subcommittees. Outreach is supposed to keep an outward focus on getting help to those in the community or world who need it. FCC Outreach provides financial support to several local, regional and worldwide organizations. But on the local level, we sponsored projects including the Angel Food Ministry (later SHARE Colorado), cooking classes, and Project Handyman. Sadly and despite strong beginnings, none of these local projects has had any staying power. I call this "Throwing Spaghetti". Any good cook knows that spaghetti noodles are done when you bite into them and they feel "al dente." But older cooks might say it's done if you throw a handfull of spaghetti against the wall and it sticks. Well, FCC has certainly thrown enough spaghetti against our walls to feed an army, it's just none of it's stuck. Those who are from the Cushing area may know Love INC (Love In the Name of Christ--(918) 225-0973). They are a clearinghouse of support for area folks in need. If you need food, shelter, clothing, and spiritual support, they can connect you with the organizations in the area dedicated to providing those services. They act as a central point of contact for people in need--making it much easier to get them help! Love INC has asked First Christian Church to play warehouse and distributor for household goods--bedding, small appliances, utensils and nonperishable items that people need after natural disasters like fires, tornadoes and floods. We will be responsible for storing, inventorying, and distributing these items on behalf of Love INC. We will be on call to minister to individuals and families when disaster strikes. We will have the chance to help restore people's lives to normal after tragedy strikes. This ministry will be some real spaghetti to throw against the wall. FCC church members, please remember this if you are approached to serve. We are still working out the details, but I believe we will need folks who can come to the church on occasion to meet people, help get them their items, pray and minister to their loss. I think FCC is perfect to minister to this need, and I hope you can help. Thanks! Mike |
