A Little Walk from Mannford |

A Little Walk From Mannford Science tells us humans were made for walking. We don't fly like birds, jump like fleas, swim like fish, or run like cheetahs. We are built to walk, and have done so since ancient times. Except here in America. We usually don't walk great distances anymore. If your relatives live 30 miles away, you jump in your car, grumble as you plunk down $2.50 at the toll booth, and watch the world whiz by at 70 miles per hour. Late in April of this year, Jeff Post and Joyce Abrams, along with a clutch of supporters and other walkers, walked from Mannford to Cushing in a show of support for Relay for Life. Why on earth would you want to walk that far? And what was it like to actually do it? Jeff and Joyce recount their little walk.

Our Little Walk Unless you've been under a rock for the past couple months, you know that our own Jeff Post and Joyce Abrams planned to walk from Mannford, OK to Cushing, OK. That's a good 32 to 33 miles. Why on earth would they do it? For a really good cause. This walk was a fundraiser and awareness raiser for Relay For Life. And a chance for "Disciples for the Cure" to get out there and be seen. And perhaps most importantly, it was a chance to remember those who have fought cancer. The walkers had 105 names hand written on their t-shirts. Those who have passed on, those who are still fighting. Step-by-step, Seeking a Cure. |

It's Easter Season at First Christian Church! |

It's Easter Season at First Christian Church! It's the season of Easter, or as Dr. Haney likes to refer to it, Resurrection Sunday. I kind of like that name better. Easter makes me think of chocolate bunnies and plastic grass. But Resurrection reminds me of what we're celebrating...Jesus is Risen!
There are lots of things going on in the life of our church this time of year. Beginning Sunday April 1 is our Easter Cantata, "Because We Believe," a compilation of songs ranging from traditional hymns to Southern gospel to modern. The First Christian Church choir will perform at 10:45. |
