It's Easter Season at First Christian Church!

Image of a tomb with circular boulder rolled away. Words It's the season of Easter, or as Dr. Haney likes to refer to it, Resurrection Sunday.  I kind of like that name better.  Easter makes me think of chocolate bunnies and plastic grass.  But Resurrection reminds me of what we're celebrating...Jesus is Risen!

There are lots of things going on in the life of our church this time of year.  Beginning Sunday April 1 is our Easter Cantata, "Because We Believe," a compilation of songs ranging from traditional hymns to Southern gospel to modern.  The First Christian Church choir will perform at 10:45.

That evening at 5, the choir will join other area churches in our Palm Sunday Celebration, where we will perform musical selections including an all-choir performance of Praise the Father, Praise the Son.  The Celebration takes place at the First Baptist Church on the corner of Little and Moses streets here in Cushing.

Breaking with tradition, we are setting aside our usual Maundy Thursday dinner with a more somber Prayer Labyrinth.  The labyrinth is and ancient prayer device used by early Christians.  It is different from a maze in that the purpose is not to get lost, but to seek God's voice in a slow, measured pace.  At predefined points in the labyrinth are prayer cards, designed to help you think about your prayer.  Many say the experience of the labyrinth is eye opening.

On Good Friday we will host our traditional Prayer Vigil.  The Vigil is divided into 12 1-hour blocks from 7am to 7pm.  If you have time, please fill in a block and come pray on Friday.

And finally on Easter...er..Resurrection Sunday, come hear Dr. Haney bring the Good News that Jesus is Risen!!

Have a wonderful weekend, and a great Easter!!

~~Mike
